Now before you read into that statement I have to explain: I’ve been in full-time youth ministry for 10 years. In the first couple years of my youth ministry journey, I remember being utterly mortified to interact with the parents of the students I was working with in my first church setting.
I was certain they were suspect of me and thought I wasn’t doing a good job. To be honest, I really thought it was solely my job to make the youth of our church into “good Christians.” Isn’t that what a good youth pastor does?
It wasn’t until much later on in my youth ministry journey that I realized something: successful youth ministry engages, supports and resources parents to be the primary spiritual influencers in the lives of their kids. That realization is what has driven me to care deeply about not just the students in our youth ministry but the parents as well.
Over the past 3.5 years something crazy has happened to me: I’ve become one of those parent types. It’s a whole new world with the added worry and stress that I may or may not be screwing up my children. I see the world through a different lens now that I have kids and deeply desire the church to partner with me to help them grow to know and love Jesus.
We wanted to start this blog to partner with you as parents in this wild and crazy adventure of raising kids. It’s our desire to come alongside you each week and connect you into what we are doing with your kids here at church as well as give you practical helpful resources along the way.
